Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Therapy Sessions
To get the most out of your therapy sessions, I recommend:
Have a snack and a drink of water before the session. Low blood sugar can lead to poor attention and make it harder to control your emotions and behavior.
Make sure your clothing is comfortable. You don’t want clothes that keep you too hot or too cold, or which are itchy or fit uncomfortably as this can be distracting. You also want to make sure you can take deep breaths in whatever you are wearing.
Take notes during the session. It can be hard to recall everything later.
Take notes between sessions so you can remember what you want to talk about. For example, if you notice something that you want do discuss in session, make a note of it at the time so you don’t forget in session to bring it up.
Be in a quiet, private space where you do not have to worry about others listening or interrupting the session.
