Did you know you have more serotonin in your gut than in your brain? This surprises a lot of people. The gut is actually sometimes referred to as the second brain. And if you think about it, sometimes you have a “gut feeling.” Our gut (digestive system) and our brain affect each other. So it makes sense that what you eat can affect not only your physical health but also your mental health. I think this is great news because it means you can have a big impact on your mental and physical health through your own actions. You may not need an antidepressant; maybe you need to eat more greens or more vegetables or less saturated fat.
