We use that expression of “sleeping like a baby” to describe deep, peaceful sleep. Anyone who has gotten up every two hours to feed and care for a baby know that “sleeping like a baby” is probably a better description for people with insomnia!
If you struggle with insomnia and only dimly remember when you used to fall asleep without a struggle, sleep through the night, and awaken feeling refreshed, I want you to know there’s help! It is possible to treat your insomnia safely and quickly. I’ve helped many people do it.
There are a lot of reasons why I recommend CBT-I (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia) to treat insomnia, but following are just 3:
1. It has more than 40 years of research showing that it is safe and effective. Research shows that it helps 70-80% of people who give it a try. (My clients have a much higher success rate!)
2. On average, people experience a 50% improvement during the treatment. This might not sound like much at first glance. But it means if you are getting about 4 hours of sleep per night, you can expect to be getting 6 hours of sleep each night pretty quickly. And the amount of sleep you get will continue to grow beyond this.
3. Unlike many prescription sleep aids, this treatment actually becomes stronger the longer it is practiced. Studies looking as far as two years post-treatment have shown continued strengthening of its effectiveness!
