Tired of Your Insomnia? Give Me a Week

How long have you struggled with insomnia? Has it been so long (maybe years) that you wonder if it could even be fixed at this point?

The average person who finally comes for treatment of their insomnia has had it for 10 years. That’s a long time to be miserable, cranky, tired, and just getting by until you get that rare good night of sleep. I have great news for you: it doesn’t matter how long you’ve struggled with insomnia—we can fix it together! Clients frequently tell me they have had problems sleeping their entire lives, even as children. If that’s you, it’s probably almost inconceivable to think of getting into bed at night, falling asleep easily, and staying asleep until it’s time to get up. I know because clients have been in that exact place at the start of treatment. At the end, when they are falling asleep easily and staying asleep throughout the night, they can hardly believe it. It feels strange at first. What a great problem to have instead of insomnia!

If you’ve had insomnia for years, decades, or your whole life, you might not believe me when I tell you that we can break your insomnia in just 1-2 weeks. I want to quickly emphasize the word “break.” I’m going to use the analogy of a cold. When you have a fever it may spike and then begin to fade away. You still feel sick after the fever is gone, but you are on the mend. That first week or two is like the fading fever– your insomnia is improving but it’s not completely fixed yet. It takes a few weeks longer to fix your sleep so that you are getting the full night of sleep you want, but within the first 1-2 weeks of treatment, you can expect to begin falling asleep quickly and you will no longer wake up as often during the night or as early in the morning.

The treatment usually involves 5 full sessions and then brief follow-up sessions as you feel are required until you reach the full night of sleep that your body needs. (That number varies from person to person, but generally falls between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night). Because these follow-up appointments are about 10-15 minutes long, they are prorated and I offer the option of meeting online using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing system. That way you don’t have to drive to my office when the appointment is shorter than the drive.

Are you ready to put your insomnia to bed? Give me a call at (816) 226-4678 and set up an appointment to get started!

Want a budget-friendly option? Insomnia therapy group is now forming! It will take place on Thursdays (June 28th, July 5th, July 12th, and July 19th) from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.. Sessions are $35 each, a significant savings over individual therapy. Before you are signed up for the group, we must have one intake evaluation session. This is a normal 50-minute session at the regular rate. This insomnia therapy is not what people think of as therapy. Instead, it will look and feel like a class. In this group, you won’t be sharing deeply personal information with everyone.
